Why we ship demo links before PDFs

Presentation and collaboration — blog cover

PDFs age the day you export them. A short Loom-style walkthrough plus a sandbox URL respects how engineers evaluate tools: they click, they break things, they decide.

What a good demo contains

  • One “happy path” under five minutes.
  • Explicit scope of what is mocked vs. real API.
  • Clear next step: trial, call, or custom build request.

On the marketplace, look for products with embedded video and labeled gallery shots — that’s the same philosophy extended to the card UI.

Five-minute happy path is harder than it sounds — we keep re-recording when APIs change.

Label mocked vs live in the first screen; reviewers forgive stale UI less than ambiguous scope.

Sandbox URLs with expiring tokens — how long do you usually set for enterprise evals?

PDF deck still wins with some procurement teams, sadly. We ship both but demos convert better.

We lead with demo link in email, attach PDF second — open rates went up.

Clear CTA at the end (trial vs call) cut our “great demo, now what?” drop-off a lot.

Exactly — one obvious next step beats three equal buttons.
